USP Schools' Students Ranked Top 15 in a National English Competition

Fifteen chosen students from USP Schools SMAN 2 Balikpapan, SMAN 11 Bandung and SMAN 3 Depok participated in the Eleventh ASEAN Law Student Association (ALSA) National English Competition held at University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Law on 21st - 24th April 2007. The competitions the students participated are: Speech, story telling, and news casting competition.

The first-ever national-scale English competition joined by the students, the ALSA English Competition served as an arena for the students to prove their abilities as they met their tough competitors from 20 national and international schools across Indonesia, such as: SMAN 5 and SMAN 2 Bengkulu, SMAN 1 Pangkal Pinang, SMAN 1 Bandar Lampung, SMAN 2 Bekasi, Sekolah Pelita Harapan, Kanisius International High school, Sang Timur School, Global Prestasi School, Santa Ursula School, etc.

Although the students didn’t win the competition, they were the top 15 contestants in the National Speech Competition and News Casting Competition. Three students, namely Winny Adetya Putri and Khairrunisa from SMAN 2 Balikpapan; as well as Yuniar Devi Utami from SMAN 11 Bandung made it to the top 15 of the National Speech Competition; Whereas Evy from SMAN 2 Balikpapan was in the top 8 in the National News Casting Competition.

The ASEAN Law Student Association English Competition is a prestigious annual national event for high school and varsity students all across Indonesia. Formed in 1989, the ASEAN Law Student Association serves as a regional network to promote idea exchange among law students in ASEAN countries, with members from Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines, Singapore, and Thailand.
