In the second regional pre-National Examination assessment held by the Department of Education in Padang (West Sumatera), SMAN 5 Bukittinggi ranked 3rd for Natural Science subjects and 9th for Social Science subjects.
The pre-National Examination assessment, held from 22nd to 24th March 2007 was participated by 13,714 high school students all over Padang. Based on the assessment, according to a local news report, students from Bukittinggi still performed better than students from other regions of Padang. click here for further news report
