Call for Action

Facts:

  • According to the Directorate General of Primary and Secondary Education of the Ministry of National Education in 2004, out of 187,000 senior high school teachers, 87,133 (46,6%) were under-qualified teachers. Data also shows that there are 17,663 senior high school teachers who are teaching subjects that are not in their area of expertise.
  • Thu Human Development Index Report of 2004, showed Indonesia placed 111th in the world, while The Phillipines, a neighbouring country that has gone through much political turmoil in past years, was in the 83rd position.

With such intricating educational problems at hand, Sampoerna Foundation launched the United Schools Program(USP), a collaborative project involving the Municipal / Regency Government, local Department of Education, selected schools and socially responsible companies in creating a model of sustainable, quality senior high schools all throughout Indonesia.
